Since 2018 the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard has been in place requiring all domestic rented property to achieve at least an E band on an Energy Performance Certificate in order to let. Whilst there are some exemptions i.e. having to spend more than £3.5k on energy efficiency improvements, the recommendation is to try and meet this standard as the requirements are likely to become more challenging in the future.

Insulation measures such as cavity wall and loft are inexpensive ways of improving the energy efficiency of a property but sometimes not enough or applicable. Solid wall insulation (external or internal) is more expensive but an extremely effective solution at reducing energy costs. It will significantly boost the energy rating along with reducing condensation/mould issues and enhancing appearance.
Whilst insulation is usually the most cost-effective way of improving energy performance, we can further advise on what other measures e.g. renewables, replacement heating, heating controls and glazing, can be implemented to meet the required standard.
